Earlier this month, the Smart Mobility Embassy and Connekt travelled to Gothenburg for an inspiring three-day programme. From urban mobility and autonomous logistics to next-generation connectivity, we explored how Sweden is shaping the future of transport and digitalisation. More than just presentations and tours, the visit was about sharing experiences, exchanging ideas, and building lasting international connections.

The recent study visit of the Smart Mobility Embassy and Connekt to Gothenburg once again demonstrated the value of learning, discovering, experiencing, and connecting. For three days, mobility, logistics, and digitalisation were at the heart of an inspiring programme – with visits to International House Gothenburg, Lindholmen Science Park, Business Region Gothenburg, World of Volvo, Västtrafik, and Ericsson.

We witnessed how government, business, and research institutions in Sweden collaborate on future-proof urban design, autonomous logistics, and next-generation connectivity (6G). Alongside presentations and workshops, there was plenty of time for informal exchanges, joint dinners, and exploring the city – creating both insights and stronger ties.

Crucially, without the guidance and openness of our Swedish peers, much of this would not have been possible. Their willingness to share experiences and engage in dialogue enriched our understanding and inspired new ways of thinking. Above all the preparatory discussions and meetings leading up to the visit proved valuable, sparking interesting conversations and providing new perspectives on mobility challenges and opportunities.

What participants learned, discovered, experienced, and connected on:
  • Insights into urban mobility, logistics, and digitalisation
  • Examples of successful projects and innovations beyond the Netherlands
  • Inspiration for future projects and opportunities to showcase Dutch innovations
  • Knowledge sharing with international partners and peers
  • New networks and strengthened international relationships
  • Practical lessons from workshops, tours, and presentations
  • A mix of formal sessions and informal interaction for a complete learning experience
Why this matters

The strength of such visits lies in shared experiences: whether during a technical tour, a walk across the city, or a casual conversation at dinner. These moments create the foundation for inspiration, innovation, and international collaboration.

This journey showed how powerful it is to learn, discover, experience, and connect across borders. And it is only the beginning – upcoming study visits and collaborations will continue to open new doors for joint learning and innovation.

Looking ahead

We are currently shaping the programme for 2026. We warmly invite cities, international partners, and regions to share their ideas and let us know if they would like to be part of our upcoming visits.
